Kelso U13 Football Club Updates

A damp evening on the 4th of June

saw Kelso take on Penicuik Athletic at Woodside Park in what was expected to be a tough game. And it didn’t disappoint. Kelso took the lead with Louie Arnold scoring early but Penicuik soon equalised. A tough game saw Penicuik leading 3-1 at half time. The half time team talk saw the boys come back with fight and determination and Louie soon netted his second goal of the match. Kelso kept fighting and Danny James equalised with around 10 minutes on the clock. Oliver Todd had probably his best game of the league season and pulled off some fantastic saves. Matthew Palmer scored the winning goal in the last minute to secure the win for Kelso. This win also secured the League title for Kelso with 3 games left to play. The boys and coaches are now hoping to finish the season on an unbeaten run and we wish them all the best with this!

What an achievement for the team in their first year in 11 aside football in the South East Scotland League – 2 cup final wins and winning the league……WELL DONE EVERYONE!!

Kelso Under 13’s played in the Polar Foods Cup Final against Penicuik Athletic YFC AND WON in a nail-biting finish.

Here is the Match Report from the Cup Final:

A lovely spring day saw Kelso travel up to Bonnyrigg FC to play in the Polar Foods cup final against Penicuik FC. The boys were stepping into the unknown as the two sides have never met before.

Kelso took an early lead with a goal scramble which was eventually netted by Louie, Penicuik responded quickly with a goal at the other end. Kelso didn’t hold back and took the lead with a lovely dink over the keeper to make it 2-1, straight out of the blocks and Penicuik hit another into the Kelso net beating Oliver to level it 2-2.

Half time couldn’t come quick enough, not only for the team but also the parent’s who were nail biting on the sidelines.

Penicuik were not hanging around and took the lead into the second half, Kelso swiftly followed with Matthew B equalising.

A free kick was awarded to Kelso with Danny playing it short to Michael, who hit it with precision. The stand lifted and the Kelso supporters were once again in full voice.
Penicuik were in this for the fight and again bounced back to level it 4-4. The final whistle blew and extra time was looming.

Once again the fight was on and every single boy was playing with passion and determination, neither side scored in the first 10 minutes, into the second half of extra time with 5 minutes to go and Penicuik took the lead.
Kelso responded with Louie getting a third, minutes before the whistle and taking it to penalties.

The final score was 4-3 to Kelso. What a game!!

With the opposition mainly based in the Lothians it is a huge commitment for the coaches, players and of course the parents who sacrifice their Sundays to drive the boys to games, not to mention twice a week training sessions.

Currently they are sitting fourth in their Division but with  14 games remaining the boys are in a great position to finish in the top end of the table.  So far they are unbeaten in their league having won 13 and drawn 1 game and we hope this success continues .

On 10th March this year they travelled to Dundas Park, Bonnyrigg to play in the  Belmont Vauxhall Cup Final where they came away with a fantastic 5 -1 win against Eyemouth, not to mention a great Cup.

The next few weeks are going to be hectic with plenty of midweek and Sunday games to get through before the end of the season and we wish the team every success and look forward to hearing how the remainder of the season goes.
