At the end of March Borders solicitor Alan Livingstone hangs up his proverbial legal hat to take retirement. The team would like to thank Alan for his 21 years at Hastings. He will be missed by both staff and clients and we wish him a fulfilling retirement and recognise the positive impact he has had on the team and the Borders community.
Alan will be based in the Kelso legal office at 15 the Square until the end of March. You can call to make an appointment before he leaves or clients can pop in to wish him farewell and a happy retirement.
Words from Borders solicitor Alan Livingstone:
“Au Revoir
After almost 43 years of practice, 34 of which have been as a Borders solicitor, I have decided to bring my legal career to an end as of the end of March. I have been a partner at Hastings Legal since June 2003 and have seen the firm grow from a small two partner, one office practice into one of the biggest legal firms in the Borders.
Thanks goes out to my partners and the great staff it has been my privilege to work. I also have to thank the scores of clients who I have dealt with over the years. Some have become friends and all have provided an incredibly diverse and interesting desk load of cases that have kept me occupied and interested. That I am going to miss, along with chatting to people and getting to know them.
My careers advice at school was that I should go into a job where I could help people. I hope that I have done that. I have thoroughly enjoyed my career but the time has come to pass on the mantle to the next generation and there is a very able team at Hastings Legal led by Ron Hastings, Ricky Hope and Tim Taylor who will continue to look after our clients best interests.
Thank you to the staff who I will miss horribly (or should that be the horrible staff I will miss?), to my fellow professionals in the Borders and to all who have endured my slightly irreverent humour at times. Coming to see a solicitor is generally known as a “distress purchase” – you only do it because you have to not because you want to – and I have always tried to make the experience a friendly experience not one to be dreaded. If I succeeded in this for you I’m happy. If I failed all of the time, please don’t tell me – you’ll spoil my retirement!
“Many thanks – I will miss you all!”
