Galashiels is the largest town in the Scottish Borders
• ‘Gala’, as the town is known colloquially, is a major commercial centre for the Borders region and has been voted the happiest place to live in Scotland by Rightmove users. The recently re-opened Waverley Railway Line has made Galashiels a viable place to live for those who work in Edinburgh but appreciate our wonderful Borders quality of life. Property prices are still affordable so we believe Galashiels is going up in the world.

Galashiels has a good range of shops and services. Super Stores such as • B&Q, • Matalan, • Currys PC World, • Tesco and • Asda, and Named Brands including • Boots, • Clarks, • Next, • Sports Direct and • Marks & Spencers among others are all in town. Of Tweed and Knitwear Fame
The town has an extensive history in the textile industry making it an appropriate location for the well renowned Heriot-Watt University School of Textiles and Design. The story goes that the name tweed came about a London clerk accidentally transcribed an order to “tweel” and wrote “tweed” and thus a textile legend was born!

• Trains to Edinburgh are hourly. You can catch a train from the stop in Galashiels, from • Tweedbank where there is ample free parking or from Stow. Galashiels has good road connections to Edinburgh as the main A7 trunk road passes through town which means that • Edinburgh Airport is less than an hours’ drive away.
